I’m Allison. I love music.

In fourth grade, I joined the school orchestra and in fifth switched to band and played the clarinet. I then switched to bass clarinet, and then to tenor sax. I could never stay put with an instrument. As soon as I learned how to play it, I would get bored and want to learn something new. I also love to sing; whether it’s honor choir, glee club, or just in the shower, it’s all the same to me. I continued exploring more instruments and taught myself guitar and then ukulele. Trust me, I’m not bragging – I don’t consider myself to be good at any of these things – but I love music so much that I can’t get enough of it. Now that I’m in college, I rarely have time to practice music (unless singing in the shower counts?). But, I always have music playing either in the background or foreground wherever I am. I am still very passionate about music, and it is a huge part of my life – I wouldn’t be who I am today without it.

How to enhance my listening experiences – without killing my wallet?

A few weeks ago, I stopped into the Definitive showroom right off 62nd & Roosevelt in Seattle. While there, I got to sample all kinds of audio systems, including the Wilson Alexx speakers. As I sat there listening, I was experiencing sound like I had never heard beforeBon Iver’s ‘Skinny Love’ began to play. I honestly didn’t know that recorded music could sound so alive. I secretly began to lust after this audio system. How would it fit in my dorm room… I don’t know?

As the song ended, I remembered I asked to hear the best audio system in the house – and it costs well over $100k. As a broke college student, my dream of owning these beauties for myself was killed (for the foreseeable future at least). For most people like me, that’s where the story ends. High-quality audio is amazing and speaks to their soul, but feels unattainable.

Despite what I thought, that notion is wrong. After spending time with John Peters at Definitive, I found a whole array of products that can enhance my everyday listening experiences – without killing my wallet.

Are you wondering where to start too? Join me on my journey this summer as I discover affordable audio systems. When we are done, you’ll see that high-quality audio is achievable, no matter your budget or listening style.  Stay tuned!
