Automatically controlled shade system in the new 4-Seasons Hotel and Residences, installed throughout by Definitive.

Each day brings new challenges and new opportunities as we strive to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. One of the initiatives we stressed when we formed our Custom Installation division in 1999, was to be ever vigilant for new methods and new technologies that would allow our projects to take advantage of the latest thinking and the latest developments, to enable our customers and our environment to benefit from the projects we design and engineer.

In the quest for energy savings, some simple things can offer big advantages. Our automated heating and cooling controls, automated light control, and multiple density shade systems are relatively cost-effective to implement but can achieve significant results when properly engineered and installed.

Dimming lights by just 25% saves 20% in energy and a 1500 hour rated incandescent bulb will last nearly 10 years when dimmed 33% and used 3 hours per day – longer than most people own their homes.

In the area of audio and video electronics, the modern digital amplifiers we offer produce far less heat and operate more efficiently. LED flat-panel monitors and TVs consume less energy and yet they offer improved performance. In 1998, the average CRT display used 114 Watts of electricity, compared to the modern LCD display at 36 Watts in 2008.

We understand that thoughtful, well-engineered, green technology can produce significant improvements for the environment, while at the same time enhancing the enjoyment of where we live and work.

Green technology has been, and continues to be, important to Definitive Audio and our customers, and we will remain committed to offering the latest and most effective solutions, in both our commercial and residential installations.
