During his time there he worked as a recording studio engineer, a student radio DJ, ran live sound at local venues, and performed in a number of bands. After school he drove west to pursue a career in film \u0026amp; television. For the next 20 years he worked as a camera operator and Director of Photography on countless tv shows and movies. When the pandemic hit, he also welcomed his first child into the world and chose to put his career on hold to be a full-time dad. As a long-time customer of Echo Audio he jumped at the opportunity to get back in the music business \u0026amp; joined the team last year. “High-end audio always seemed so unattainable, but it’s not. Record stores. Distributors. Rock bands. Radio stations. He's interviewed musicians, written record reviews, promoted albums to media companies, and produced concerts. He's bought, sold, and swapped hi-fi gear most of his life and, more recently, refurbished turntables. A successful career in fine dining restaurants funded his HiFi habit. His first job in the hi-fi industry? That's this one. Eight months in. No kidding. Last year he decided he wanted to be a turntable mechanic. So that's what he's doing now.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"x_MsoNormal\"\u003eThe track he'd put on during a demo is \"Spare Change\" — Michael Hedges, Liz Story, and Michael Manring. It still gives him shivers. The entire arc of his life changed the day he heard Michael Hedges in 1981, and he followed that path until 1996 — producing Hedges' first concert in Oklahoma City and four more after that. When Hedges died, Rob knew that chapter was really over. He put on that record and wept.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"x_MsoNormal\"\u003eDuring his long run in the restaurant industry, Rob eventually became a sommelier. Food and wine pairing, he'll tell you, is surprisingly like cartridge and tonearm pairing. And discerning a customer's taste for wine isn't so different from discerning their taste for an audio experience.
