In silent protest, I sat through the opening crawl without reading it. But as soon as that huge Star Destroyer got done flying overhead across the screen, I was forever obsessed. Shortly after college, I saw a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 at Cleveland’s Severance Hall. There is a crescendo at the climax of the third movement that was so emotionally, viscerally powerful that my eyes instantly welled up and my goosebumps nearly tore a hole in my suit. The entire arc of his life changed the day he heard Michael Hedges in 1981, and he followed that path until 1996 — producing Hedges' first concert in Oklahoma City and four more after that. When Hedges died, Rob knew that chapter was really over.
