Description

The Madison Amplifier was developed through direct engineering collaboration between Wattson and CH Precision. The collaboration shaped the amplifier where it matters -- topology, power strategy, device selection, and overall circuit behavior. Wattson built a compact amplifier with real structural seriousness, applying lessons from CH Precision's engineering culture to a more accessible platform.

The amplification stage is built around bipolar output devices derived from CH Precision's M10 Reference Amplifier, implemented here as one device per rail. The circuit is low-feedback Class A/B, fully discrete and fully symmetrical from input to output. Bias stability reduces crossover distortion. Controlled feedback sustains linear gain while preserving harmonic nuance. The external power supply is balanced, regulated, and filtered -- treated as a core part of the design, not an afterthought. Balanced XLR and single-ended RCA inputs. 100 kilohm input impedance. Both inputs remain fully symmetrical through the amplification stage.

Three operating modes -- stereo, mono, and bi-amp -- allow the amplifier to adapt as a system evolves. In mono configuration, a single chassis drives one channel with up to 150 watts into 2 ohms. In bi-amp mode, both channels address separate driver sections of a compatible loudspeaker. Mode, impedance, and gain are set via rear-panel toggle switches. Firmware updates via Ethernet. CNC machined from solid billet aluminum. Available in Light Gray or Dark Gray. TAS Editor's Choice 2025.
