The CCM8.5D is the flagship of B&W's custom installation line, and it carries the Diamond tweeter — the same ultra-hard, ultra-light dome used in the 800 Series Diamond freestanding speakers. Diamond has a first break-up mode far beyond the audible range, which means what you're hearing from the tweeter is pure driver output, not the tweeter resonating at itself.
Below the Diamond sits an 8" woven Kevlar bass driver — chosen for its combination of stiffness and self-damping, in an enclosure engineered to control rear wave energy without the cabinet coloring the output. The decoupled tweeter pod floats independently of the baffle. The crossover is B&W's highest-spec CI implementation.
Installed, the CCM8.5D is indistinguishable from what a serious freestanding speaker does in a room. It is, without question, the ceiling speaker you buy when you're not willing to compromise.
