A History of Audio Excellence

1973

The Beginning

Rega was established by Roy Gandy with the goal of building a high-quality, affordable turntable. The company's aerospace background influenced their approach to precision engineering and simple, effective design.

1977

Introducing Rega 2

The Rega 2 featured an innovative, minimalist design, with a unique low-mass plinth (the body of the turntable), which was much lighter than many other turntables of the time. The bias compensation system in the tonearm helped improve tracking and reduce distortion.

2000

Rega 3 2000 Edition

Launch of the Rega P3 (Third Generation): The P3 redesign incorporated Rega's new RB300 tonearm, one of the first to feature an ultra-low-mass design for reduced friction. It also offered a glass platter that improved rotational stability and reduced wow and flutter. The tungsten-carbide bearing in the tonearm offered an even smoother tracking experience, further improving sound quality.

2017

High Precision Technology

Rega Planar 6 Turntable: The Planar 6 introduced the use of RB330 tonearm technology, which incorporated high-precision machining and a new stiffer, more rigid tonearm tube that reduced flexing, thus improving tracking accuracy. The glass platter and advanced low-frequency damping materials helped further reduce unwanted resonance. This model also utilized a Neo power supply, offering adjustable speed control and further improving motor accuracy.

2019

Smoother Rotation with the Planar 8

Rega Planar 8 Turntable: The Planar 8 featured double-braced skeletal design with a phenolic resin laminate construction, dramatically reducing weight and improving rigidity. The new RB880 tonearm was designed with a low-mass yet rigid structure, improving tracking and precision. It also used a new, improved motor assembly with better stability and smoother rotation.
