Description

When B&W releases a new 801, it isn't an update. It's a restatement of what the company believes a loudspeaker can be. The 801 D5 carries the full weight of that tradition while advancing every technology that makes it possible. A 25mm diamond dome tweeter — the hardest known material, virtually free of audible resonance — sits in a Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top enclosure, isolated from the cabinet to let it do its work without interference. Below it, a 150mm Continuum cone FST midrange operates in its own Turbine Head — a structural aluminum enclosure machined to eliminate boundary reflections that compromise conventional midrange integration. Two 250mm Aerofoil bass drivers handle everything below: aerofoil-profile cones developed with aerospace manufacturing techniques to be stiff where stiffness matters and compliant where it doesn't, combined with Biomimetic Suspension and Flowport-tuned reflex loading that extends bass to 15Hz within ±3dB. The Matrix-braced cabinet adds the final layer — an internal lattice of cross-bracing that eliminates cabinet coloration at the source. It requires a serious amplifier — rated up to 1000W into 8Ω. It rewards that investment with full-range, low-distortion, reference-class reproduction from 15Hz to 28kHz.
