Description

The Progression Preamplifier introduces a suite of innovative features, enhancing the D’Agostino preamplifier experience in ways not seen before. A standout addition is the optional digital module, which provides coaxial, Toslink, and USB inputs, seamlessly complementing the analog base model. This module is powered by a fully differential DAC, capable of handling PCM signals up to 24-bit/384 kHz and DSD signals up to 4xDSD (11.2 MHz), delivering pristine digital audio.

The digital module feeds a discrete, fully complementary, and balanced analog signal path from input to output. Remarkably, the Progression Preamplifier operates without the need for negative feedback, ensuring a pure signal path. With open-loop distortion under 0.006% and a bandwidth extending to over 100 kHz, the preamplifier provides exceptional clarity and fidelity.

Another notable upgrade is the Bluetooth technology integrated into the remote control, which extends its range five times over traditional infrared systems. This advancement eliminates the line-of-sight limitations of conventional remotes, offering a seamless, hassle-free user experience.

The volume control is implemented through a stepped balanced resistor ladder, using high-linearity solid-state relays and discrete precision resistors. This design ensures that the preamplifier’s bandwidth and transient response remain unaffected by volume adjustments, maintaining consistent performance. Additionally, the Progression Preamplifier features two independent outputs that can be operated separately or simultaneously, ideal for driving a second amplifier in subwoofer-based systems.

Housed in a separate chassis, the power supply of the Progression Preamplifier is carefully engineered with extensive electrical and magnetic shielding to protect the critical preamplifier circuits from radiated interference. Internal circuitry filters RF noise from the AC power and compensates for asymmetric power waveforms and DC on the mains, ensuring stable and clean power delivery. A second DC output is included, allowing for the future addition of Progression source components.

The preamplifier also features two analog meters, inspired by Swiss watch faces, which function as VU meters during music playback. When the volume is adjusted, the meter needles shift to indicate the volume setting, returning to their VU meter function once adjustments are complete. These meters can also serve as balance indicators when making balance adjustments, adding both functionality and a touch of visual elegance to the listening experience.
