The Martin Logan Renaissance ESL 15A is the company's statement on what that technology can become when engineering is allowed to go as far as it needs to.
The heart of the speaker is Martin Logan's XStat CLS electrostatic transducer -- a large, curved panel that creates a Curvilinear Line Source. The curvature is not decorative. It is the solution to the narrow sweet spot that plagued early electrostatic designs, expanding the listening window both horizontally and vertically without compromising the precision that makes electrostatics worth the pursuit. The panel handles everything from the upper bass through the top of the audible range with the speed and resolution that electrostatic technology uniquely enables.
Below the panel, Martin Logan engineered an entirely separate bass system built around a 15" aluminum cone woofer powered by a dedicated 200-watt amplifier with DSP bass control. The powered woofer section includes boundary compensation controls -- adjustable EQ settings that account for room placement near walls and corners, where bass loading changes what you actually hear. The crossover between panel and woofer is set at 270Hz, placing the transition below the range where human hearing is most sensitive to phase and time coherence.
The Cherry cabinet finish is clean and refined, built to stand as a piece of furniture as much as an audio component.
