The Varèse Mono DACs are built around the all-new Differential Ring DAC -- the biggest redesign of dCS's core DAC architecture in a generation -- and synchronised by dCS Tomix, a patented clocking protocol developed specifically to keep two separate DAC units in perfect alignment. Twice the current sources, significantly lower noise floor, and a level of channel separation that a stereo DAC cannot achieve. Description

The decision to build a separate DAC for each audio channel is not just an engineering statement. It is the recognition that left and right are fundamentally different signals and deserve fundamentally different treatment. In a conventional stereo DAC, both channels share a single power supply, a single clock domain, and in many cases a single conversion circuit. Crosstalk is managed rather than eliminated. In the Varèse system, there is no crosstalk to manage, because there is no shared circuitry between the two channels at all. Each Mono DAC is a complete, self-contained conversion engine. dCS redesigned the Ring DAC from the ground up for Varèse, doubling the number of current sources and introducing a new differential mode of operation that further increases linearity while significantly reducing the noise floor. The result is a measurable and audible improvement in every dimension: lower distortion, greater dynamic range, wider and deeper soundstage, and a quality of bass that stereo DAC designs simply cannot reproduce. To maintain perfect synchronicity between the two units, dCS developed Tomix, a patented clocking protocol transmitted via ACTUS that ensures both channels convert their audio samples at precisely the same moment. Without Tomix, a Mono DAC arrangement would introduce new timing inconsistencies even as it solved others. With it, the Varèse system achieves a level of stereo precision and image stability that is, by any technical measure, beyond what a single-chassis design can deliver. Four output voltage levels, selectable from the menu, provide complete compatibility with any amplifier in any system.

What is the warranty on dCS products?

dCS offers a 3-year limited warranty on their products, covering defects in materials and workmanship when purchased from an authorized dealer. If registered within 6 months of the original ship date, the warranty starts from the purchase date. For registrations after 6 months, the warranty begins from the ship date unless supported by the original sales invoice. In any case, the warranty starts no later than 6 months after the ship date.

Do you offer service on dCS products?

We do! In many cases we can service a still under warranty system in the home, however in rare cases we might need to bring it in for more extensive maintenance.
