Description

JBL has applied the "Project" designation to only five loudspeaker families in its 80-year history: Hartsfield, Paragon, Project Everest, Project K2, and now Summit. The Summit Everest is the pinnacle of that lineage — the most fully realized expression of everything JBL's Acoustic Center of Excellence in Northridge, California has produced across eight decades of transducer design, cinema acoustics, and professional audio engineering.

The high-frequency system at the top of the Summit Everest is unlike anything JBL has put into a residential loudspeaker before. Three D2820 2-inch dual-diaphragm, dual-motor compression drivers — each running dual voice coils from independent motor structures — combine their output through a patent-pending 3-into-1 expansion manifold before entering a large-format Sonoglass HDI horn. The result is a high-frequency presentation with the dynamics and immediacy of a professional compression driver and the imaging precision of a reference studio monitor. Below it, dual 10-inch Differential Drive mid-bass drivers and dual 15-inch Differential Drive woofers — each loaded with JBL's triple-layer HC4 cone — produce a low-frequency foundation with the authority to fill a large room without strain at any level.

The Summit Everest is a 3.5-way design, which means the woofers and mid-bass drivers operate together in the bass region and separate as the program material demands, allowing the system to distribute thermal load across four large-diameter drivers while maintaining coherent integration through the crossover. That crossover is the MultiCap network — multiple smaller capacitors in parallel rather than traditional large-value units, reducing electrostatic resistance and energy loss. It supports single-wire, bi-amp, bi-wire, tri-amp, and tri-wire configurations.

Internal wiring is Ohno-Continuous-Cast long-crystal oxygen-free silver-plated copper. Binding posts are rhodium-plated and carbon fiber wrapped. Custom JBL | IsoAcoustics isolation feet decouple the speaker from the floor. The enclosure itself — internally offset, multi-braced, pressed curved-wall construction in sustainably sourced engineered wood — weighs 523 pounds per side. This is not a speaker you move. It is a speaker you build a room around.

Available in high-gloss black with Platinum accents or Macassar Ebony veneer with Gold detailing.
